This brief is part of IFPRI's 2020 Vision for Food, Agriculture, and the Environment series, which presents a number of policy briefs that draw on a wide body of research both from within and outside of the CGIAR, providing a historical context to the links between agriculture and health, specific health conditions and agricultural systems, and take an in-depth look at the challenges to linking agriculture and health in policy.

The brief is the first of the series and aims to communicate what is known about the linkages between agriculture and health, to essentially improve our understanding of these and stimulate dialogue on the topic. With a focus on the poor in developing countries, this brief deals with the relationship between agricultural producers, systems, and outputs, and the world's leading causes of death and disease. There are various trade-offs involved, and this brief sets out some of the approaches that can contribute to improved synergies between the agriculture and health sectors
