South Asia Gender Initiative
Applying a gender lens to the Bank’s work in South Asia Evidence suggests that gender, particularly women’s status, is an important factor in nutrition in South Asia, where women’s low position and high levels of malnutrition exacerbate children’s nutrition problems. Researchers have asserted that child malnutrition would drop 13 percent if gender equity were attained there (Smith et al. 2003). The World Bank South Asia Region (SAR) is undertaking a number of research initiatives to improve gender-inclusive nutrition interventions in the region. For more information click here.
