The objective of this paper is to shed light on the poverty, malnutrition and vulnerability profile in Mali before the March 2012 coup and assess the impacts of some production and price shocks. The paper identifies the poor, food poor and malnourished in Mali, providing a short profile of their characteristics and where they are. The study then analyzes the vulnerability of Malians, looking at whether this vulnerability is poverty induced (low mean consumption) or risk induced (high consumption volatility).
