Linking Smallholders to Markets
This report discusses how smallholders in sub-Saharan Africa can use agricultural growth and market linkages to raise their incomes, reduce poverty, and prevent hunger. The authors identify enabling invesmtent climates and the provision of public goods as important preconditions to smallholder success, as well as clear avenues for farmers to access markets, inputs, technical advice, insurance, credit, and other financial services. The report concludes with a set of recommendations across the development spectrum, including for governments, donors, NGOs, and agricultural investors.
