This working paper analyzes the impact of the 2008 food price spike and the 2009 global economic crisis on undernourishment rates. The results of this analysis show an increase in undernourishment of approximately 63 million people due to the food price spike, and an increase of 41 million people becoming undernourished as a result of the global economic slowdown.​
