Identifying opportunities for nutrition-sensitive value-chain interventions
Value chains include all actors and activities from food production to consumption (“from farm to fork”) and play an important role in determining the availability, affordability, quality, and acceptability of nutritious foods. This IFPRI brief gives an overview of the literature surrounding the opportunities and constraints of using the food value chain approach to improve nutritional outcomes of low-income consumers. The authors conclude that there is much enthusiasm but little evidence for the efficacy of value-chain-for-nutrition interventions, and that more research is needed.
