The authors of this study evaluated the impact of Heifer International's dairy cow and meat goat donation programs in Rwanda on household dietary diversity and child nutritional status. The results were positive. Households that received a dairy cow increased their monthly dairy consumption by 9.34 liters. Families that received a goat increased their monthly meat consumption by 0.20 kg per person. Dairy consumption and meat consumption also benefited children in those households, with data showing a statistically significant gain in height-for-age.
