This brown bag seminar presented and compared existing systems and methodologies used to identify food crises and emergencies at an early stage. It analyzed the merits and limitations of early warning vis-a-vis "real time" monitoring systems. The seminar closed with reflections on what additional information would be needed to best prepare for future food crises. Presentors were made by Gary Eilerts, Program Manager, USAID FEWS NET; Máximo Torero, Division Director of the Markets, Trade, and Institutions, IFPRI; and Jose Cuesta, Sr Economist, PRMPR, WBG.
