World Food Assistance 2017 - Taking Stock and Looking Ahead
This World Food Programme Report analyzes national, regional and international responses to food crises. Authors look at three dimensions: 1) the levels, trends, and patterns of food assistance; 2) the primary challenges facing design and delivery of food assistance in different contexts; 3) innovations in food assistance that are being developed to address these challenges. The Report finds that while funding for food assistance is high, effectiveness is held in check by several factors. The authors argue that policy makers must improve emergency preparedness, food system performance, South-South cooperation, and data-sharing for food assistance. They suggest a practical research agenda addressing program-level and system-level challenges facing food assistance initiatives.
