This brief suggests how agricultural programs in developing countries can have a bigger impact in reducing undernutrition: address factors such as inadequate policies, insufficient funding, limited evidence, incorrect assumptions, and gender equality. Specific recommendations for projects include, among others, incorporating explicit nutrition objectives and indicators in the design of agricultural programs, showing a pathway for how agriculture will contribute to improved nutrition, focusing on tackling food shortages in the months preceding the harvest to reduce seasonal spikes in rates of acute malnutrition, and ensuring that efforts to improve dietary practices become a standard part of food security-oriented agricultural programs. This factsheet was produced by People in Need (PIN) on behalf of the Generation Nutrition global campaign, launched in 2014 to bring about an end to child deaths from undernutrition.
