FAO's "Plates, Pyramids, Planet" report identifies countries where food consumption guidelines are likely to improve nutrition while making links to environmental sustainability. At the time of the study, only four countries' recommendations--Brazil, Germany, Sweden, and Qatar--drew these key connections. These countries each highlight a largely plant-based diet to have advantages both nutritionally and environmentally. Brazil, for example, includes social and economic aspects of sustainability in its dietary guidance to individuals, in addition to advice steering people away from processed foods.
