An Overview of Links Between Obesity and Food Systems: Implications for the Agriculture GP Agenda
This literature review discusses direct and indirect policies affecting diets with a focus on overweight and obesity. It is an initial attempt to better understand how agriculture and food systems can mitigate against the rising incidence of overweight and obesity, and to do so by presenting evidence-based interventions in the sector. The authors explore the link between diet quality and the four subsystems of the food system (agricultural production; food storage, transport and trade; food transformation; and food retail and provisioning), emphasizing the need for context-specific piloting of suites of interventions, paired with vigorous monitoring and assessment.
