Nutrition- and Gender-Sensitive Agriculture Mapping Tool
Two Netherlands-based agencies, SNV and Royal Tropical Institute (KIT), collaborated to produce an online toolkit and an accompanying technical report on how and why to address undernutrition with gender-sensitive agriculture interventions. The online toolkit is thorough, with Step 1 (context assessment) broken down into guidance for secondary data collection, analysis of nutrition situation, policy mapping, stakeholder mapping, and other components. There are eight steps in total, and each provides both key questions to be asking at different stages of program development, and walk-throughs for data collection and analysis. The overall approach is highly participatory, and all steps work towards a community action plan. The accompanying paper looks especially at nuances between "women's empowerment" pathways compared to "gender-sensitive" development, and argues that a holistic understanding of roles, access, decision-making, and norms is what ultimately informs good interventions.
