HarvestPlus uses their Annual Report 2015 to focus on hidden hunger and how biofortified food can contribute to addressing it. New data demonstrates that biofortified foods can reverse iron deficiency and reduce the incidence and duration of diarrhea, one of the leading causes of preventable death in children under five. Fifteen million people in eight HarvestPlus target countries across different regions are now growing and eating nutrient-rich staple foods. While much remains to be done to reach a billion people by 2030, the Director of HarvestPlus concludes it is achievable thanks to private and public partners who integrate biofortification into their policies, programs, and investments.
