The Future of Food and Agriculture: Trends and Challenges
This FAO report is published as part of an effort to determine whether agriculture and food systems are capable of handling current population growth, and point policy makers and practitioners towards sound decisions and investments. It describes 15 interdependent trends and links them to challenges to achieving food security and good nutrition for all. The report rigorously emphasizes that “major transformations in agricultural systems, rural economies and natural resource management” will be required to realize the full potential of food and agriculture. The authors include an infographic that depicts the complex interrelationship between current economic, population, and environmental trends and proximate challenges to future agriculture and food security.
