The Cost of the Double Burden of Malnutrition: Social and Economic Impact
This report explains a pilot study to model effects and costs of the double burden of malnutrition in three countries in LAC (Chile, Ecuador, and Mexico). Specifically, the report assesses the effects and costs associated with undernutrition, then presents the estimates for overweight and obesity, and finally explains the total costs of the double burden of malnutrition. The authors illustrate lessons learnt from piloting the model of analysis, and present actual figures on the costs on health, education, and productivity associated with the double burden of malnutrition per each of the three countries.
