A Chance to Grow: How Social Protection Can Tackle Child Malnutrition and Promote Economic Opportunities
This report focuses on one component of social protection – social transfers – which are particularly relevant to tackling malnutrition. It sets out the role that social protection can play in improving nutrition and tackling hunger and makes the case for good nutrition in relation to long term economic growth. The authors also present five evidence-based guidelines for policy-makers regarding the design of nutrition-sensitive social transfers and how they can be adapted to country context. Finally, the report reviews the impact of global economic crises, including in 2008 and 2009, on hunger and nutrition status of children.
