Harvesting Child Nutritional Gains through the Graduation Approach
Webinar hosted by socialprotection.org and organised by Social Protection for Employment – Community (SPEC). Presenters from the USA and Uganda discuss BRAC’s graduation programme Targeting the Ultra Poor (TUP), a programme that combines transfer of income-generating assets and training on entrepreneurial activities, health, nutrition, social and political awareness training over a two-year period.
While positive socioeconomic impact of TUP has been well documented, this is the first paper to evaluate the effects of TUP on nutritional outcomes of children under 5 using data from a randomized control trial over a four-year period. The research found large improvements in nutritional outcomes of children in participant households where the likelihood of wasting reduces by 8 percentage point and the likelihood of being underweight reduces by 19 percentage point. The webinar will present the detailed findings of this research.
